About Dooars


Dooars is one of the very few places where nature is lavish. Dooars is a home to five major national parks and sanctuaries all with its unique features and diversity. Along with river teesta there are ample of rivers that flows through the forests and landscapes and leads to some of the unseen places. This has recently given a way to new adventurous activities known as river trekking. Also there are places in dooars that are among the top tourists favourite.

Some of the major tourist places are:

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary:

This sanctuary is located at a distance of 124 km from Siliguri and stretched over an area of 216.52 sq. km. It got its existence in 1941 to protect the endangered and rare species. The forest houses the one-horned rhino and is the second sanctuary that reserves the highest number of one-horned rhino. River torsa flows through the forests.

Gorumara National Park:

Gorumara National Park was founded in 1976 and has been recently introduced in the national parks map. Gorumara Park is located about 200 km from Siliguri and falls on the National Highway 31. This national park is also known for Giant Indian one-horned Rhino, tigers, and bison.

The Murti and Raidak river flowing beside and the pleasant weather which is the added attraction of the forests.

Samsing and Suntaleykhola:

These places are the last words of the nature’s tourism. Located at a distance of 81 km from Siliguri these small villages are least populated and far away from the modern technology. The calmness of the forests will last in your mind forever. The land where nature is at its best with few tiny eateries and the interesting part is naturally crafted places that make it a favorite picnic spot for both locally based people and tourists.

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary:

This sanctuary is the wildlife enthusiastic and naturalists dream. This is located at the terai region and foothills of the eastern Himalayas. Situated 13 km ride from Siliguri and covering an area of 159.86 sq. km Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is the home for Indian one horned rhino, giant elephants, tigers, sambar, deer and rare species of feathered animals.

There are few watch towers that provides spectacular view of the forest and the hills. The forest is also famous for bird watching and jungle safari.

Bhutan Ghat:

Bhutan ghat is 218 km from Siliguri and 18 km from Alipurduar. The place is adjoined with Bhutan and attracts tourists for its scenic beauty and swiftly flowing river Raidhak. The weather is mild throughout and thus various wild animals hover in this place like Elephant, tiger, bison, deer, rhino and more.
